Are you in a relationship and looking for some fun new date ideas? The truth is, for many folks who are married or have been in steady relationships for long periods, dating has become an afterthought.

You've heard the old adage, "Actions speak louder than words." In the dating world, people need to be shown they are loved and cared for and not just told. So here are four great ideas for a date night that will express to your significant other that you care for them.

1. Themed or cultural dates

Positioned as a single date or a series of dates, themed or cultural night dates can go in many directions, but this gem of an idea is focused on experiencing the world.

Directions

1. Make an imitation passport for your significant other.
2. Fill out a destination on one of the pages to a country you know your date is fond of or would like to visit. Stamp it when you've completed the date.
3. Research and attend an event or restaurant that ties into the culture of that place. If you're feeling really adventurous and prefer to cook the meal yourself, decorate your kitchen with flags or makeshift cultural icons from that place, put on a Pandora station with music from that culture or country, share some trivia about the culture, etc. The possibilities are endless if you plan it out.
4. If you're married and have kids don't forget to plan for a babysitter. If you don't live with your date, don't forget to pick them up… but seriously.

2. Attend a concert

Music is easily accessible in today's world of tech, but there's something that still resonates with people about seeing it performed live. In fact, according to statisticbrain.com, people spent approximately $35 million on concert tickets in 2013.

The greater Salt Lake City area is full of concert opportunities, both with bands visiting on tour and local talent performing at festivals or events. In fact, you can even catch some of that local talent this weekend in Layton.

Remember, going to a concert is all about the experience. So be ready to have a blast, treat your date right, and if you're feeling up to it, take some couple selfies (couplies?) with the bands playing the background.

3. Use a date to plan more dates

This is a perfect one if you're in a steady relationship and want to make date night a regular thing. Grab a deck of cards and a magic marker then go out for some dinner or dessert and write his and hers ideas down on the cards.

Why a deck of cards? A standard deck has 52 cards — which happens to match perfectly with the number of weeks in a year. Put on your thinking caps and you'll have his and her dates to choose from for every week for an entire year.

4. A city bike ride

You've probably seen the green bikes in downtown Salt Lake City. Take an evening before it gets too cold and rent bikes for you and your date. Bring a camera or your phone so you can document the memories by stopping periodically and taking some pictures together.

You might be surprised what some fresh air, casual exercise and city lights can do to make a memorable evening. Ladies, this may be a date where you leave the high heels in the closet…

Now you're armed with four different date ideas that you can do as quickly as this weekend. Grab your guy or gal and get out for a night on the town.

Leave a comment with your favorite date idea(s) so others can benefit from your brilliance!
