KOHALA RANCH, Hawaii — A 50-year-old man from Salt Lake City was killed in a car crash in Hawaii, police said Monday.
Christopher A. Sprecher collided with a tree in a single-car accident after he lost control and ran off the right shoulder at the intersection of Kohala Ranch Road and Olomana Road at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Investigators said he was driving a 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser sport-utility vehicle in the Kohala Ranch private, gated subdivision. After the accident, he was transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital before being pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m., police said.
Sprecher was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, and police officers said they have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
