TAYLORSVILLE — A man led officers from multiple agencies on a high-speed chase through four cities for nearly an hour early Tuesday morning, police said.
The chase started in West Valley City after police got a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in a parking lot. When police arrived, they saw a man asleep in the driver’s seat of the car.
When the man awoke, he took off, leading West Valley officers and Unified police on a pursuit at speeds up to 90 miles per hour, police said.
The chase lasted nearly an hour, taking police though West Valley City into Kearns, then to Taylorsville, to West Jordan and then back to Taylorsville where police spiked the fleeing car's tires, ending the chase.
The driver then jumped out of the car while it was still moving.
“He ran into the backyard. The two officers that were in pursuit were in the backyard. There was one K-9 that had arrived right then. They spotted him fairly quickly in the backyard and were able to take him into custody," said Sgt. M.T. Johnson of the West Valley City Police Department.
The car, which Johnson said was a rental, hit a police unit.
The car's driver, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested for investigation of DUI, fleeing, and possession of drugs.
Police said they found drugs and paraphernalia in the car.
