GHOSTBUSTER LAND — “Ghostbusters” was recently re-released in theaters to celebrate its 30-year anniversary, and hype around the movie has been high lately. On top of the re-release we’re also getting a special Blu-ray release, and rumors of a new movie are picking up more and more steam.
The latest rumor surrounding the new Ghostbusters flick is that it will include an all-female cast. Paul Feig is rumored to direct the film and that Melissa McCarthy would have a role. This would make sense considering Feig and McCarthy have already made two films together with another in production.
Access Hollywood caught up with Dr. Peter Venkman — aka Bill Murray — at the Toronto International Film Festival, and he seems to think the new direction for “Ghostbusters” is a great move.
“It sounds great to me. It sounds as good an idea as any other,” Murray said of an all-female Ghostbusters movie. “There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapor. No, it’s a grand idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea, I would watch it. I mean, I love Robert Palmer’s videos, so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters?”
Murray also gave some suggestions to the Toronto Star as to who could be cast in the film.
“Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny,” Murray said. “I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”
Things actually get really interesting when you start to break down Murray’s choices.
First off, he was at TIFF to promote “St. Vincent,” which also stars Melissa McCarthy. Murray also co-starred with Stone on “Zombieland.” His other two choices, Wiig and Cardellini, both have histories with director Paul Feig.
Wiig starred in “Bridesmaids,” which Feig directed, and Cardellini starred in the TV show “Freaks and Geeks,” which Feig created.
All of this, of course, is speculation, but it’s fun to dream.
