GEORGIA — A woman with Alzheimer's seemed to briefly remember her daughter, who caught the moment on camera.
Kelly Gunderson was laying in her 87-year-old mother's bed recently, reminding the woman who raised her who she was.
"Do you know you're my mama?" she asked. "Do you think I would just lay here with anybody?"
"No. I think you would want to have to love them," her mother responds.
Though it takes a moment to work through their relationship, eventually, the woman says her daughter's name. Gunderson said her mother often mistakes her for a cousin.
"Well I love Kelly. And didn't I name you Kelly?" her mother says in the video.
Alzheimer's can be a confusing disease for both sufferers and their families. Those with it have good days where they seem to remember more than on other days. My grandfather could sometimes remember certain people, but other days couldn't figure out why he was sitting with strangers. Watching Gunderson, we get a glimpse of a moment of respite and remembrance that family members crave when caring for someone with Alzheimer's.
"God gave me a moment with my mother remembering who I was," Gunderson wrote in the comments.
