MIDVALE — Police were investigating a shooting that left one man hospitalized in serious condition Monday.

Officers were called to 350 E. 7200 South just before 1:30 a.m. on reports of shots being fired in the area, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said. When police responded, they found a white Cadillac with broken windows in the parking lot of the Apple Honey Apartments.

"As they began to investigate the windows being broken out, they noticed blood in the parking lot," Hoyal said. "They followed a blood trail back to a specific apartment in this apartment complex."

In that apartment, officers found an 18-year-old man who had been shot in his "lower extremities." The man was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

Hoyal said detectives were interviewing witnesses and neighbors to try and determine what prompted the shooting. "Right now we have very limited suspect information (about what) was involved in this case and exactly what happened," he said.

Police believe a white Toyota Camry was involved and have asked that anyone who saw the shooting or might have more information about the incident call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
