PRICE — Following a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation, a Carbon County man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, firearm violation and drug possession.
Nathan Howerton, 32, of Helper, was pulled over early Wednesday afternoon for a traffic violation at 535 S. 100 East in Price, Price City Police Department said. Police found Howerton's driver's license was not valid, he had a minor vehicle equipment violation and his blood alcohol limit was above the legal limit. While investigating his vehicle, police also located drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
Officers arrested Howerton on suspicion of driving under the influence.
During an investigation of Howerton on an unrelated matter, police said officers located more drug paraphernalia and 16 firearms — including one handgun that had been reported stolen during a residential burglary and a second that was reportedly stolen from a business.
Howerton has multiple drug-related convictions on his record, according to court documents. He is not allowed to possess firearms, police said.
Howerton was booked into the Carbon County Jail for DUI, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, distribution of heroin, and several traffic related violations, police said.
