SALT LAKE CITY — The odds are good that you know someone who is affected by morning sickness right now.

However, the exact cause of morning sickness has yet to be pinpointed. In this short video by SciShow, a YouTube channel that discusses science news and ideas, the theories behind what drives feelings of nausea are explored and explained to viewers.

The feelings could be triggered by hormonal changes early in pregnancy, according to the video. For example, the levels of the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin double every few days until the third month.

Other theories include the possibility that morning sickness could be an instrument to prevent mothers from eating foods with a high risk of food poisoning.
