SALT LAKE CITY — It's a chore for the ages, a challenge for all parents: How to motivate your child to help around the house.
Like everything else these days, there's now an app for that. ChoreMonster is an app for your desktop or mobile device that turns chores into fun.
"The child actually gets to use the app themselves," said ChoreMonster founder Chris Bergman. "So, they get to pick and choose which chore they want to complete based on when it's due, how many points it's worth, that type of thing."
The parents see another side of the app.
"You actually have two apps in one," Bergman said. "You have one for the parent and one for the child. The way it works is a parent says 'Hey, this chore's worth 10 points,' and the child saves up 200 points."
The child can then redeem those points for whatever they want to do, including getting game time within the app.
Bergman's inspiration for developing ChoreMonster was his own life experience.
"Growing up I was constantly getting in trouble, getting grounded, all for not completing chores," he said.
