Round Rock beats Salt Lake in extras

SALT LAKE CITY- The Round Rock Express defeated the Salt Lake Bees in an extra-inning slugfest Thursday Night at Smith's Ballpark, 9-8. After two scoreless innings, the Express turned on the offense with Michael Choice hitting a bomb over center field with two runners on base. Jared Hoying singled to center field before Ryan Rua hit the second home run of the inning over the right field fence. J.B. Shuck started the comeback for the Bees hitting a two RBI line drive single with the bases loaded. Luis Jimenez, Ryan Wheeler and John Buck all followed Shuck's lead, each driving in one run to round off the scoring in the fifth inning. Tony Campana's sixth inning triple plated Vance Albitz before Campana touched home on Shawn O'Malley's line drive single. The Express tied the game in the eighth inning when Brett Nicholas, Chris Gimenez and Bryan Petersen all scoring to send the game into extra innings. Michael Choice hit his second home run of the evening in the 11 inning to give Round Rock the go-ahead run.


Fireworks will be featured after Friday's games.

Salt Lake starter RHP Chris Volstad (2-1) did not factor into the decision after going three innings allowing six hits and five runs. Round Rock starter Luke Jackson (1-2) also did not factor in the decision after throwing four and two-third innings allowing three hits and five runs. Vinnie Pestano (0-1) earned the loss after giving up the home run in the 11th. Jimmy Reyes (1-1) got the victory for Round Rock.
