TOKYO — Projection mapping isn’t a new technology, but it’s still in the phase of boggling minds. So projection mapping with real-time tracking might truly mess with your head.

A Japanese company called P.I.C.S. has released a video that not only uses projection mapping on a face, but it tracks the subject’s face in real time as she moves her head in all directions. Meaning, wherever her face moves, the projections line up perfectly with the location and angle changes.

At first the projections are neat as it looks like the subject’s makeup is changing instantly. But as the video continues, the projections become more complicated and awe-inspiring. At one point it even appears that her face robotically opens to reveal circuitry “inside.”

The video is combined with music and sound effects that only increase the enjoyability and wow-factor of the video. It neatly dovetails into the company’s mission to “provide happy surprises to people through new susceptible imagery with continuous effort for achieving originality and innovation.”
