SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police released the name of a motorcyclist who was killed after smashing into an SUV on Thursday.

Caeser Cruz, 20, and a woman, whose name was not yet released, were reportedly in a domestic dispute while parked off the side of the road near 3600 S. State on Thursday afternoon. When an officer approached the couple, they hopped on a motorcycle and accelerated away at a high rate of speed, according to police.

Just a few hundred yards later, near 3750 S. State, the motorcycle T-boned the side of an SUV that was making a left turn.

The female passenger was listed in fair condition Friday. Detectives were unsure Friday why the couple sped away from the officer.

Cruz's criminal history includes misdemeanor charges in justice court for impaired driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was scheduled to be back in court next week on one of those misdemeanor cases, according to court records.
