ST. GEORGE — Nevada Highway Patrol took a woman into custody after she allegedly robbed a bank in St. George, starting a pursuit over three states.

At about 5 p.m. Thursday, St. George police were called to a bank robbery at the US Bank on 791 S Bluff, according to St. George Police.

The woman entered the bank and handed a note to a teller that threatened bodily harm unless her demands for money were met, but no weapon was brandished or otherwise seen during robbery, police said.

The alleged robber was wearing dark pants, a blue hoodie, sunglasses and a "surgical-type mask" at the time of the incident.

The woman left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and drove away in a "newer model" silver Nissan Maxima with dealer plates, police said.

A St. George police officer spotted the vehicle going southbound on I-15 between St. George and the Arizona border. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, according to police. After the driver crossed the Arizona border, St. George police contacted the Arizona Highway Patrol who continued the chase.

According to Trooper Loy Sixson with the Nevada Highway Patrol, the NHP was then contacted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, informing NHP of the high-speed chase of an alleged bank robber. The NHP joined the pursuit with continued support from the AHP and with the Mesquite Police Department.

"There's some stretches where the freeway does open up. Traffic was light at the time and we were getting upwards of speeds of 110 and 120 (mph)," Sixson said.

Sixson said Mesquite police attempted to stop the car with road spikes, but that attempt was unsuccessful. NHP then set up a second set of road spikes further down the freeway, and the second attempt was successful. The vehicle was stopped at the Logandale exit, which is about about 60 miles from the Utah border.

"We did shut the freeway down, just a little bit north of where the vehicle stopped on the southbound side and about 3 miles further south on the northbound side," Sixson said.

"At that point she was not complying with our commands to leave the vehicle and decided to barricade herself inside. We didn't know if weapons were involved at that point or if she was just being uncooperative," Sixson said.

But after about 45 minutes, Sixson said the woman gave herself up and was taken into custody by Mesquite police without any further incident.

Police have not released the identity of the woman at this time.
