SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah has agreed to a home-and-home series with Mid-American Conference’s Northern Illinois in 2018 and 2019.

The Huskies will welcome Utah to DeKalb, Illinois, on Sept. 8, 2018, at Huskie Stadium. It will be the first meeting between the two universities, according to NIU athletic director Sean T. Frazier.

The Utes will play the Huskies at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Sept. 7, 2019.

“This series with the University of Utah is a big step forward in our future scheduling,” Frazier said in a release. “We are bringing a Pac-12 opponent to our house for the first time, and will meet our goals of facing teams from the Power 5 conferences every year. This series will positively affect our program in many, many ways.

The Huskies announced a home-and-home series with BYU Monday, playing BYU in Provo on Oct. 27, 2018, and hosting the Cougars on Oct. 24, 2020.

With Thursday’s announcement, the Utes have three non-conference games scheduled in 2018: Weber State (Aug. 30), NIU (Sept. 8) and BYU (Nov. 24). In addition to Northern Illinois, Utah will play Idaho State (Aug. 29) in 2019.
