DENVER, Colo. (KUSA) — The man Colorado authorities say hijacked one vehicle, stole two others and tried to take more before a sheriff's deputy tackled him on a highway west of Denver earlier this week has been identified as 37-year-old Christopher David Sullivan.

Deputy Fred Haggett, who helped bring down Sullivan, says he was just doing his job.

"I'm very tuned into the fact that he's got a rifle and I've got a handgun and distance is to his advantage, and I want to engage him," Haggett said. "He's putting his hands in the air saying 'don't shoot me! Don't shoot me! But then he's not following the orders to get down on the ground, so I can take him into custody."
