KAMAS — Angie Fitzgerald died and her daughter was seriously injured in a head-on collision last week. Now the community of Kamas is rallying around her family.

That show of support was in the spotlight at the Kamas Valley Fiesta Days Friday. In the middle of all the music and laughter was a deeper meaning at the celebration.

"She had a lot to do with the kids night," said Phil Marchant of All West Communications. "She actually organized it. Angie had the idea to bring in the bounce houses."

Angie's longtime employer, All West Communications, hosted the event, but many community members pitched in. Katie Lake and her sister made a bench by hand and are raffling it off. All proceeds will go to the Fitzgerald family.

"I remember one time Angie and her husband coming and helping us get our cows in because they were running down the road," Lake said. They were just those kind of people, always willing to help."

"When I heard that Angie passed away and that Maddy got hurt, I felt bad," said Abigale Flygare.

Flygare made cupcakes, and the little bake sale was a big success. She raised $1,250, which All West Communication then matched.

Perhaps the most touching tribute was at Friday's rodeo. Angie's horse, Sugar, was led into the arena by Angie's son without its rider. The announcer read a passage written in her honor. It's a moment where the people in the town she loved so much could reflect on the difference she made in their lives.

"It's really overwhelming," said Angie's sister-in-law, Crissie Fitzgerald. "At the same time it's heartbreaking and heartwarming."

Although the Fitzgerald family knows nothing will bring their cherished mother, sister and wife back, they found comfort in the support of those around them Friday.

"It makes all the difference to see all the greatness that was Angie kind of come back full circle to the family," Fitzgerald said.

Angie's daughter, Maddy, who was also in the car crash, is expected to make a full physical recovery and was well enough to attend Friday's rodeo.
