SALT LAKE CITY — With Comic-Con International: San Diego 2014 just around the corner, Marvel Unlimited is releasing its 13,000 comics to readers for 99 cents. Readers will have up to a month to enjoy their favorite comics.

The comics may be read online using a computer and are also offered on the Marvel Unlimited app for iPads, iPhones and some Androids.

Since the comics are online, the possibility of a more technologically savvy experience comes to life. Many comics are the digital version of a typically printed comic. However, some comics are enhanced with sound as the reader moves from one scene to the next, according to Wired.com.

“If you’re just standing in a room, the music is kind of mellow, but as you go along and enemies appear, the music ramps up and adapts to what you’re doing. So we took that concept and put it into the adaptive audio for the comic. As you go along from panel to panel, it changes, whether you’re going forward or backwards,” Ryan Penagos, editorial director of Marvel's Digital Media Group, told Wired.com.

Marvel makes it possible for readers to download up to 12 comics on their device that they can read while offline, too. These won't be saved on devices when the month ends, but this option does make reading possible when readers cannot be online.

There are limits to the offer, though. Marvel is offering this deal just for this week in honor of Comic-Con. Marvel Unlimited is only offered in the U.S., according to Android Headlines.

Typically, Marvel offers its readers access to comics for $69 annually and $9.99 monthly. The 99 cents suddenly feels like no money at all.
