SALT LAKE CITY- The Tacoma Rainiers swatted their way to series split with an 18-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark. The two teams played into the third before a power outage halted the game for 18 minutes with the Rainiers up 6-0. The game resumed and the Bees were held hitless through five and a third before J.B. Shuck broke the streak with a single up the middle. The Bees loaded the bases with two outs, but were unable to capitalize. Down 18-0 in the ninth, the Bees took four consecutive walks, scoring one as John Hester batted in another on a double-play ground ball to avoid the shut out.

Jarrett Grube allowed eight earned runs over four innings for the loss as Logan Kensing was awarded the win. Each team used six pitchers with position player Roberto Lopez taking the mound to close out the ninth for the Bees. Infielder Leury Bonilla and catcher Humberto Quintero made pitching appearances for the shorthanded Tacoma bullpen.

Next, the Bees head to El Paso for a three-game series preceding the All-Star break. Shawn O'Malley will represent the Bees at the All-Star Game in Durham on July 16 before returning the Salt Lake with the rest of the team on July 17 for an eight-game homestand against Las Vegas and Reno.
