SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz announced Thursday a trade with Toronto to acquire forward Steve Novak and New York’s 2017 second round draft pick.

In exchange, the Jazz traded Diante Garrett, who averaged 3.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 71 games with the Jazz last season. Garrett was called up from the NBA Development League on Nov. 13.

The trade was first reported by Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowki on July 4. However, the trade could not be finalized until the NBA’s nine-day moratorium period, which prohibits teams from formally acquiring players, ended Wednesday night.

Novak is an eight-year veteran out of Marquette, averaging 5 points and 1.4 rebounds over his career. His is the sixth-most accurate three-pointer shooter in NBA history, averaging 43.2 percent over his career. The only player with a higher career three-point shooting percentage in the league is Golden State’s Stephen Curry, who averages 44 percent.

The Jazz ranked 25th in the league last season in three-point shooting, averaging only 34 percent.

The 2017 draft pick acquired makes it the fifth pick the Jazz have in that draft class. Utah has the rights to Golden State’s first and second round picks, in addition to picks the organization already owns.
