LOGAN — For the second time in his career, Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton was one of 40 quarterbacks named to the College Football Performance Awards Quarterback of the Year watch list, the school announced Tuesday.

Keeton, a senior from Houston, Texas, is one of three Mountain West Conference quarterbacks to be named to the list, which also includes Colorado State’s Garrett Grayson and Nevada’s Cody Fajardo. BYU signal caller Taysom Hill is also among the potential honorees for the award.

The 6-2, 200-pound Keeton enters his final year with the Aggies also ranked among the 25 college football players named to the Heisman Pundit/CBSsports.com Heisman Trophy watch list. He is currently a first-team preseason all-Mountain West selection by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele magazines.

Keeton ranked second in the nation with 17 touchdown passes in 2013, despite missing all but five games of the regular season before a knee injury suffered Oct. 5 against BYU. Before going down, he completed 136 of 196 passes for 1,388 yards while accounting for 18 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

Hill, a junior from Pocatello, Idaho, registered 2,938 passing yards, 1,344 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns as a sophomore en route to the 2013 College Sports Madness Independent Offensive Player of the Year award. He was named to the Maxwell Award watch list Monday, alongside teammate Jamaal Williams.

Utah State opens its season Sunday, Aug. 31, at Tennessee. The Aggies will open its home slate Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. MT against Idaho State.
