ELBERTA, Utah County — Police were unable to locate an armed man they believed was hiding in a home in southern Utah County.
Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, a woman told post office workers in Elberta that her husband was at their home a half-mile away and was threatening to kill himself. Post office employees called police who responded to the couple's home.
Utah County SWAT-trained officers and Utah County sheriff's deputies responded to the home at 12865 W. 14780 South, southwest of Utah Lake.
They learned that the man had holed up inside the home and was likely armed, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. There were no hostages being held.
Officers called out to the man over a speaker and sent a robot with a camera attached over to look into the home's windows for signs of movement but did not locate the man.
Police entered the home in the late morning and could not find the man or the gun in question. Investigators found an empty handgun case in the home. No vehicles were missing from the home. Officers searched nearby outbuildings and property and called off their search shortly before 2 p.m.
