LOGAN — Two Utah State football players have been named to preseason watch lists for college football awards.

Quarterback Chuckie Keeton, who is recovering from a knee injury that he suffered during last season’s game against BYU, is on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, and linebacker Kyler Fackrell is on the list for the Bednarik Award.

Keeton, who threw for 17 touchdown passes in five games, is a Maxwell Award finalist for the second consecutive year. The award is annually awarded to America’s College Player of the Year. Previous winners of the award include Stanford’s Andrew Luck, Florida’s Tim Tebow, and BYU’s Ty Detmer.

Fackrell is a finalist for the Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation’s best defensive college football player. Previous winners of the award include Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o, Michigan’s Charles Woodson, and Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh.

BYU’s Taysom Hill is also on the Maxwell Award Watch List, as is Jamaal Williams. Utah’s Dres Anderson also is on the list.

Fackrell is the only player from Utah to be named to the Bednarik Award Watch List.

Utah State opens its season against SEC opponent Tennessee on Aug. 31.
