OAKLEY, Summit County — One child was critically injured and another was released from the hospital with minor injuries after a man driving a truck ran into the back of an ATV they were riding Friday, according to Sgt. Ron Bridge of the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Four minors were traveling west on a four-seat ATV when a truck came up behind them and tried to go around the ATV at about 6500 E. Weber Canyon Rd., Bridge said. As the man attempted to turn left, so did the driver of the ATV, causing the truck to strike the back of it.

Bridge said all four children on the ATV were injured, and the minor critically injured was transported by air ambulance to a Wasatch Front hospital. Another was transported to the Park City Medical Center and released shortly thereafter. The other two were looked at by medics on the scene and released.

The man driving the truck was uninjured.

The four-seat, razor style ATV is legal for the road, Bridge said, as long as it has the right gear attached. Determining whether the ATV had that equipment and if proper safety gear was being used is part of the Summit County Sheriff's Office's ongoing investigation.
