SOUTH SALT LAKE — The man who died in a shooting Monday night has been identified.
Francisco Antonio Colon, 40, of West Valley City, was shot and killed around 8 p.m. near 200 East and Helm Avenue, according to South Salt Lake police. Francisco, who was driving the silver Chevy Avalanche, died from a single gunshot wound to his upper body, according to police.
A 17-year-old passenger, also of West Valley City, was shot in the arm and stomach. Police said he walked away from the scene before they arrived. The identity of the juvenile will not be released.
When police arrived on scene, the pickup truck was still in the travel lane and two of its doors were open. Witnesses reported seeing four or five people running south from the scene and three or four people running north, police said.
Detectives believe the victims were shot by someone in a nearby alley and that it was possibly gang related. The case is still under investigation. No arrests have been made.
Colon has a long history of felony theft and burglary convictions dating back to the 1990s and has spent time in the Utah State Prison, according to court records.
