GLEN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA — A drowning at Lake Powell was one of several emergencies at the popular recreation site over the weekend, the National Parks Service reported Tuesday.
Searchers recovered the body of 41-year-old Pamela Hammitt from Gallup, New Mexico, on Monday after a two-day search, officials said in a release Tuesday.
In a separate incident that same day, emergency officials aided a 16-year-old boy who broke his left femur on a houseboat slide near Wahweap Coves.
Two boats also caught fire over the weekend, according to the report.
On Thursday, a 21-foot boat caught fire at the Bullfrog fuel dock, and three people sustained third-degree burns.
A houseboat caught fire at the Wahweap fuel dock on Saturday, injuring 29-year-old Las Vegas resident Nicole Rhodes. An explosion threw Rhodes off the back of the boat. She was transported by medical helicopter with second-degree burns, according to the report.
The incident is being investigated by the National Park Service and Coconino County Sheriff’s Department.
Two people were also seriously injured in separate accidents Friday. A 17-year-old boy was transported to a Utah hospital by medical helicopter with a serious head injury, and a 40-year-old woman was extricated in a short haul helicopter rescue after breaking her ankle in the Cathedral Wash area.
