SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah mountain resorts say more skiers and snowboarders visited their slopes this year for the second consecutive season.
The industry marketing group Ski Utah says the 4.1 million day visits during the 2013-2014 season marks a nearly 4-percent increase from the year before. The visits came during a below average year for snowfall in the state.
Utah's resorts have bounced back in the last two years after seeing visits hit an eight-year low in 2011-2012. This season's total falls just shy of a high of 4.2 million visits set twice in the past 10 years.
In an effort to lure skiers away from ski areas in Colorado and California, seven Utah ski resorts recently announced they are planning to build a series of chairlifts to link their ski areas.
