TOOELE VALLEY- Perhaps the most unusual automobile race in the history of Miller Motorsports Park will take place this weekend, May 31 - June 1, when the 24 Hours of LeMons hits the track.

Not to be confused - in any way - with the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ‘round-the-clock endurance classic held each June in France since 1927, the 24 Hours of LeMons is an endurance race for cars that cannot cost more than $500 exclusive of safety equipment.

The brainchild of racing entrepreneur/author/editor Jay Lamm, the series began in 2006 as a fun and whimsical, yet affordable, way for amateurs to go road racing. The series attracts some of the most unusual vehicles ever to compete on a racetrack, with fanciful team names and a general attitude of fun.

The race will not actually run for 24 hours. The field of 69 teams will take the green flag on Miller Motorsports Park's 2.2-mile East Course at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday for what the organizers have named "The Return of the LeMonites" and will race until 6:30 p.m. The action will resume on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. and the checkered flag will fly over whomever is left running at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon.

The race rules are unlike any other racing event. There are unusual and severe penalties that can be meted out during the course of the race, some that are voted on by spectators and others that are handed out at the whim of the organizers. Penalties are not announced in advance, but organizers say that they will be "humorous, humiliating and probably Utah-specific."

The event is open to spectators, and tickets are priced at $30 for adults for the weekend. Kids aged 16 and under will be admitted free of charge.
