WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman accused of stabbing and killing her husband while he was holding their baby during a Labor Day barbecue was ordered Wednesday to stand trial for murder.
Thu Huong Thi Nguyen, 41, is charged in 3rd District Court with murder, a first-degree felony; obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence in front of a child, a third-degree felony.
On Sept. 2, 2013, Nguyen and Thai Van Le, 44, got into an argument during a barbecue at an apartment, 1801 W. Park Blvd. in West Valley City. At some point during the verbal confrontation, Nguyen got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Le in the back while he was holding their 4-month-old child, according to investigators. The child was not harmed.
Wednesday, a preliminary hearing was held for Nguyen. The state called a total of five people to the witness stand. The defense rested without calling any witnesses and the judge bound the case over for trial.
An arraignment is scheduled for June 9.
