CLEARFIELD — A man was killed in a hit-and-run auto-pedestrian accident Tuesday night, and another man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Clearfield police officers responded to reports of a protective order violation near the Freeport Center around 10 p.m. 37-year-old Jose Antonio Cortez Orozco, of North Salt Lake went to the Freeport Center to try and talk to his wife and "give her flowers," according to a Davis County Jail report. Orozco's wife has a protective order against him, however, which specifically states that he is to stay away from Frutura Industries at the Freeport Center.

After an officer arrived on scene, Orozco allegedly violating the protective order was seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle, police said. The officer pursued Orozco briefly before calling off the chase.

Around 10 minutes later, Clearfield police received reports of an auto-pedestrian accident at the intersection of 700 South and State Street. The pedestrian, 27-year-old Kelly Allred of Clearfield, was in critical condition and was transported to Ogden Regional Medical Center, according to Clearfield police. Allred died around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday as a result of injuries suffered in the accident.

After obtaining descriptions of the vehicle from eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident, police issued an "attempt to locate" warrant for Orozco. Police believe that Orozco was the driver involved in the hit-and-run accident.

North Salt Lake police officers located Orozco around 10:47 p.m. and identified evidence on the vehicle indicating that Orozco was likely involved in the auto-pedestrian accident, police said.

Orozco was arrested and booked into the Davis County Jail in connection with leaving the scene of an accident, automobile homicide and protective order violation.

Court records show Orozco's wife filed for a protective order in November. In December he was convicted of assault in a domestic violence related case and sentenced to a week in jail. In January he was found guilty of violating that protective order and was sentenced to 120 days home confinement and ordered to wear an ankle monitor, according to court records. In October, he was charged in connection with two business burglaries. That case was still pending as of Wednesday.

Allred's family has set up an account* at US Bank under the name Kelly Allred to help with funeral expenses.
