Watch any major golf tournament and you'll be impressed by how these athletes can consistently hit great shots. Before you can start hitting fairways like the pros, you'll first have to learn how to perfect your backswing.

This week's Uinta Golf Tip of the Week question comes from John Higginson of Centerville: I need some help with my backswing. I tend to rush the backswing which ends up getting me out of rhythm, preventing me from creating good contact. Any tips?

Here's Thanksgiving Point Director Of Golf Mark Whetzel with some help.

When teaching someone how to improve their backswing, I like to have them try a simple drill I call "Chip the Drive". This will enable a golfer to improve their tempo or rhythm in their swing.

Holding your driver, practice swing through a couple 50 yard chip shots (yes, you read that right). Practicing soft, slow chip shot swings with your driver will help you lock down on that nice, even tempo that we are looking for.

Move up to 100 yards, and then eventually 150 yards. When you move up in distance, you'll notice that all you are doing is creating a wider angle of attack. But by thinking that each shot is a chip rather than a full swing, you will naturally slow your swing down and create the optimal tempo for your takeaway.

Try the "Chip the Drive" drill, we guarantee it works.

For using your question you will receive a dozen of the new Nike RZN black golf balls. Go to any of the Uinta Golf stores to pick up your prize.
