MOAB — The world of camping in Utah just became a little more glamorous.

“Glamping” (glamorous camping, for those laymen out there) is a new trend in outdoor recreation popping up around the country. The first of such endeavors, Yellowstone Under Canvas, was met with marked success. Now glamping has come to Utah, and organizers hope it’s met with similar acclaim.

For those looking for an outdoor experience filled with luxury and comfort, Moab Under Canvas is a must-try, said events coordinator Pam Yang.

“We saw an opportunity to create a new travel experience that combined our love of the outdoors with what travelers were looking for — authenticity without compromising on comfort and style,” Yang said.

Moab Under Canvas is a camping outfitter near Arches National Park. It caters to high-end campers. Lodgers can choose between a variety of sizes of large canvas tents that come complete with running water, raised wooden floors, beds and all the amenities of home.

“Our target customers are adventurers,” Yang said. “Whether with friends or family, we're seeing the biggest draw are for visitors who come to Moab seeking all the outdoor options it offers, but want a comfy bed under the stars at night.”

Campers can choose between several options for tent rental, ranging in price from $89 a night to $495 a night, Yang said. Each option comes with various amenities and features.

“On the most expensive option, you can sleep in a luxury suite with private en-suite bathroom and a lounge area inside your tent,” Yang said.

Moab was the perfect location for expanding the world of glamping, Yang said.

“Our first luxury camp was Yellowstone Under Canvas, which is about to start its third season, and with the successes there we looked for a similar location where visitors go to experience the outdoors but don't have an authentic outdoor lodging option,” Yang said. “We know Moab has a huge draw for outdoor enthusiasts and so we realized it would be a great new location for an Under Canvas camp.”

The response to Moab Under Canvas has been positive so far, Yang said.

“We just had our grand opening on April 4 and it's been fantastic so far,” Yang said. “We are really busy already, which is great news for us.”
