PROVO — Two local designers have decided to bring the glitz and glamour of the fashion world to Provo.

Fashion Week has expanded way past the usual centers of the industry, and now Utah is hosting its own version. Showcasing local designers, the two-day event will include runway shows with announcers and lighting and all the atmosphere-inducing extras.

“Ultimately we want to create a place for people interested in fashion design in Provo to get together and support each other in the passion,” said Melanie Brook, one of the masterminds behind Provo Fashion Week.

Funded by Kickstarter, the event is highly anticipated by fashionistas and a curious public.

“When I heard about Provo Fashion Week, I was really intrigued by the idea of all of these designers coming together and creating something for the fashion community here in Provo,” Tara Brooke, a stylist and hairdresser, wrote on her blog. “I am excited to be involved in this campaign.”

Brook and her "partner in style", Janay Robinson, are thrilled about the networking opportunities this will bring to the fashion industry in Utah, and the variety of people they have enlisted to help with the event.

“We have gathered a wide range of designers who will be displaying classy business and casual wear, sparkling beaded ball gowns, adorable children's accessories, backpacks and stylish suits, just to name a few,” they wrote on their Kickstarter.

Hair and makeup will be done by students at the Paul Mitchell School, and local photographers will be on hand to document the style and sass on the runway.

The shows are planned for Wednesday, April 9, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., and Thursday, April 10, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., at the Startup Building, 560 S. 100 West in Provo.
