This week's question comes from Julie:

"What is the best way to make homemade waffles from scratch?"

Waffles are a favorite at my house, and they are surprisingly easy to prepare. Here is my go-to recipe for delicious waffles you can make at home:

Buttermilk Belgium Waffles

Ingredients:2. 2 cups all-purpose flour

  1. 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  2. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  3. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. 2 cups buttermilk
  6. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  7. 3 eggs
  8. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, sift flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, butter, eggs and vanilla extract.
3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk until combined. Do not over mix. Batter will be slightly lumpy
4. Pre-heat your waffle maker and cook waffles according to the manufacturer's instructions.

You can use bottled maple syrup to top your waffles, but I like to mix it up with this delicious homemade alternative:

For an extra treat I also like to give my kids a chance to top their waffles with their choice of ingredients:

  1. Ice cream
  2. Banana and pecans
  3. Strawberries and whipped cream
  4. Cinnamon and apples
  5. Blueberries and mascarpone cheese
  6. Peanut butter and Nutella
  7. Blood oranges and crème fresh …the options are endless!

Add some of Harmons thick sliced bacon or breakfast sausage and fresh squeezed orange juice, and you'll have the perfect breakfast that your family will love.
