GOSHEN, Utah County — A 19-year-old Goshen man has been arrested for investigation of driving under the influence after running over his mother.

Douglas Brandon Herring's parents were trying to stop their son from leaving their home about 11 p.m. Monday when Herring ran over his mother with his pickup truck, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

Herring's mother fell and was hit by the truck, Cannon said. She was taken by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center with broken bones and lacerations. The woman was still at the hospital and recovering Tuesday.

Deputies said Herring's behavior at the scene was indicative of drug and alcohol use, but Herring refused tests. After obtaining a warrant, deputies took blood and urine samples that were positive for methamphetamine.

Herring was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of inflicting serious bodily injury while driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance.

A search of court records revealed Herring took a plea in abeyance in September for consuming alcohol as a minor.
