SALT LAKE CITY — Crews extinguished a car fire on I-215 near 2100 South Wednesday morning, then used brine to reduce the risk of ice on the road.
The car was cleared just before the morning commute, which was slow in spots due to snowy conditions.
Another motorist spotted the car on fire and motioned for the driver to pull over, according to Capt. Mark Borger of the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
Troopers kept the driver warm while firefighters dumped water on the flames. Below freezing temperatures raised concern about that water freezing on the road, so UDOT was called to help.
"They have two brine trucks here and we're going to spray down the water we put down with brine, so it's not such a safety hazard," Borger said.
The car was loaded onto a tow truck and removed from the scene before the commute picked up.
Elsewhere, snow slowed the drive and contributed to several crashes along parts of the Wasatch Front.
