LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — Following a burglary turned armed robbery and kidnapping, police are looking for the man who committed the crime.

Around 1 p.m. Friday, a 26-year-old man from out of state arrived at a relative's home on Alta Approach Road, finding the back sliding glass door open. Hearing noises coming from another room, he began investigating and encountered an armed white male wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans and a blue baseball cap, police said.

Robber Description
Suspect:
  • White male, 5-foot 9-inches tall, 150 to 160 pounds
  • Late 20s, early 30s in age
  • Wearing a baggy gray hoodie with red writing "Puma," baggy blue jeans, a blue baseball hat with a white brim, with possible brown hair. He was wearing black "Mechanix" gloves, tan boots.
  • Weathered look to his skin and bags under his eyes.
Weapon:
  • Black semi auto handgun.
Vehicle:
  • Two-door black Honda Accord, possibly a 2002-2004.
  • Utah plates with the first number of A.
  • A silver sticker of a skull with diamond-shaped eyes is in the back window.

The robber pointed a black handgun at the man, who tried to run away. The robber stymied his escape and held him inside the home for approximately 45 minutes, according to Unified Police Department. Meantime, the robber collected various items from the home.

Just as the robber was about to leave the house, the captive man's adult sister and 14-year-old niece arrived. The armed man stole items from them at gunpoint, Unified Police Department detective Jared Richardson.

The robber fled the premises in a two-door black Honda Accord with Utah plates. Witnesses told police the first symbol of the license plates was "A". A sticker of a silver skull with diamond-shaped eyes was on the car's back window.

The robber is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5-foot 9-inches tall and weighing 150 to 160 pounds. He may have brown hair. Police say the man's gray hoodie had red writing on it spelling "Puma". He wore tan, Timberland-style, boots.

Richardson said his skin was aged and he had bags under his eyes.

"There were a lot of mistakes made by the suspect," Richardson said. "There were a lot of things he did and he said that we can't release right now. If we can get information of him based on this description, we think we have a very solid case."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
