SALT LAKE CITY — The letters keep coming in from the No. 1 team in the nation, Alabama. They keep coming from the second ranked team in the country, Florida State, as well as the third ranked Oregon.

All three of these powerhouse football programs want Dayan Lake to play for them. But the Northridge Knight junior cornerback says "no thanks" every time they call. Lake has committed to play for the Cougars and is not wavering on his decision.

"When I got offered to BYU they warned me that I would be getting a lot of letters, so you can stay committed if you want. I said 'Yeah, BYU is where I want to go.'

"I don't know how to put it, BYU just fits me better" Lake added. "I like their coaching staff and all their players welcomed me."

The reason why Dayan Lake is in such demand as a junior is because he's 5-foot-10-inches, 185 pounds and runs a 4.4, 40-yard dash. The speed is what has coaches drooling.

In Northridge's game last week against Layton, we got a glimpse of the mental toughness of this highly recruited athlete. Midway through the fourth quarter, in a tie game with the Lancers, Lake fumbled the kickoff, which led to Layton scoring the go ahead touchdown moments later.

However, Lake used his speed to make up for the fumble. With two minutes left in the game, still down a touchdown, Lake stepped in front of a Layton pass and nobody would catch him as he quickly covered 73 yards for the game-tying touchdown that sent it into overtime where he scored the 2-point conversion to beat Layton by one point.
