SALT LAKE CITY — "Rapty" the raptor is back.
The velociraptor statue has been a fixture in Salt Lake City's 9th and 9th neighborhood for a decade. Someone took it over the weekend. But after news coverage of the theft on Monday, the 6-foot-tall, metal statue taken from the front yard of a home reappeared Tuesday, abandoned in a nearby alley.
The statue reportedly suffered minimal damage. The investigation into who took Rapty and where he was for 48 hours continued Tuesday.
Janelle Smith, Rapty's owner, said she and her family were thankful to the community for spreading the word and helping in the search for the statue, and for the person who returned it.
