GOSHEN — For three summers, hundreds of cast and crew have recreated scenes from the New Testament on a replica of Jerusalem, just south of Utah Lake.

They are wrapping up filming for a series on the life of Jesus Christ for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but the set will be used again.

The set was created to mimic Jerusalem 2,000 years ago, and Church filmmakers plan to use it for other projects because the set was built to last.

"I've been making movies for about 20 years and I've never worked on a set that was built for a film that is of this magnitude. Never," said Scott Smiley, film and video division director of the Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos.

Five-and-a-half million people have watched the LDS Church-produced videos, including Latter-day Saints and people of other faiths. Forty nine videos are now available to be streamed online for free.

The actors playing Mary and Joseph were reunited for a scene. Looking back, they said this has been a challenging but rewarding experience.

"I read as much as I could and I think just tried to prepare on a spiritual level," said Savannah Stevenson, who plays Mary in the series. "(I) tried to align my life in a good and positive way so that I felt that I could take on, hopefully, some of those qualities that she may have had."

For Alexander Greenfield, the actor who plays Joseph, the experience has opened his eyes and been a journey of learning.

"It has helped me appreciate the little things more, the punctilious details of life that I never thought I would care that much about. They make a big difference," Greenfield said. "There are some breaths now that last a lifetime."

More Bible videos on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ will be released this year. Videos that have already been released can be viewed on lds.org and the church's YouTube channel. Videos can also be accessed on a mobile app, which offers a different way to engage and interact with the videos.
