SALT LAKE CITY — A proposal to stop people from selling pets along the side of the road did not garner enough support in a legislative committee Tuesday.
SB253 would have prohibited the sale of certain animals in certain areas, including public roads, alleys, parking lots, etc. Violators would face a penalty of a class C misdemeanor.
Supporters had argued that the measure would prevent unlicensed breeders from selling or giving away dogs and cats, as well as address the issue of growth in the population of unwanted and abandoned pets.
However, the measure failed to get the required number of votes from members of the Senate Transportation and Public Utilities and Technology Committee.
