The black and blue rivalry spilled onto the hard court as the Bingham Miners and the fourth ranked Alta Hawks played the 9:30 a.m. game to begin the 5A basketball tournament at Weber State University.

No. 4 Alta defeated Bingham 65-61 to advance to the 5A quarterfinals.

Bingham built a 12 point (15-3) lead in the first quarter that put the Hawks on their heels, but Alta methodically chipped away at the lead outscoring Bingham 52-38 in the final three quarters.

Alta had balanced scoring from Landon Albrecht (18), Trevor Hill (7) and Zach Rollins (15) and the Hawks wouldn't take their first lead of the game until 4:15 left in regulation.

Bingham got a double-double from senior 7-foot center Brandon Morley, who lead the Miners with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Bingham was statistically superior in many categories, including field goals made (22-20), rebounds (29-26), assists (14-8), and blocks (2-0), but Bingham had just six turnovers and held on for the victory.

Alta will play Weber on Wednesday, Feb. 27th at 7:30 p.m.
