OGDEN — A person was found dead in a home after a shootout and standoff with Ogden police early Sunday morning.

At about 2:23 a.m., Weber dispatch received a call from a female reporting a domestic violence incident and asking for assistance from police, according to a press release.

Officers responded to a home near 100 West 4th Street where 2 individuals were in a home. While investigating, officers were fired upon by someone inside the home. They returned fire and retreated, according to the release.

Some occupants were safely removed from the home.

An occupant then barricaded him- or herself in the house. Ogden-Metro SWAT was called in for assistance and began negotiations with the individual.

At some point, negotiations ended and officers entered the home where the person was found deceased.

The release states that the investigation is still ongoing.

The exact details surrounding the incident are still forthcoming. It's not clear how the person was killed, whether alcohol or drugs were involved or what led to the domestic violence incident.

The officers involved in the shootout have been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted by the Weber County Attorney's Office, according to the release.

More details will be posted as they become available.
