SALT LAKE CITY — Hurricane Sandy is ravaging the East Coast. So, how can you help? KSL is tracking the location of relief supplies and where they will come from, once the storm passes certain areas.
Latter-day Saint Church leaders in the hurricane-affected areas are now watching the path of the storm, waiting to hear who needs help and where.
We have learned from people in these large cities back east that many are watching out for one another, particularly in evacuation and flood zones. KSL spoke with Elise Faust in New York City.

As Mormons prepare for Hurricane Sandy, they live their faith
Members of the Harlem Young Single Adult Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened their worship service Sunday with a hymn that captured what was on everyone's mind: "Master, the tempest is raging!""My residence is actually on the border of two evacuation zones, and I haven't evacuated yet," said Faust. "We've been reaching out to people both as the storm started yesterday and also as the storm progresses. In my apartment building, for example, most people have not evacuated, so we've all kind of bonded together, and we're trying to be friendly with each other."
"I'm on the 12th floor," Faust continued, "so the chances of (Hurricane Sandy) flooding my apartment are slim. But it could flood the lobby and if power goes out, then we'll have a problem with the elevators."
Elise Faust said she wants to help, and many of you do as well. According to the Red Cross more than 3,200 people spent the night in 112 of its shelters in nine eastern states.
But the organization has had to cancel blood drives in those areas, so if you are able to donate blood, please do so soon. There is information on redcrossblood.org or 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767)
Also, this will be a costly response to help people. If you can help financially, make a call to that same phone number, visit www.redcross.org, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 and make an automatic $10 contribution.
