VILLA CARLOS PAZ, Argentina — An Argentine dog has given new meaning to the term "man's best friend," refusing to leave his master even after the man's death.

Capitán ran away from home after his owner, Miguel Guzmán, died in March 2006. His absence was not noticed for days, until the family visited Guzmán's grave at a municipal cemetery.

"Damián started to shout that it was Capitán and the dog came toward us barking, as if he were crying," Guzmán's wife, Verónica Moreno, told La Voz del Interior.

The family said Capitán had never been to the cemetery — that they knew of — and they had no idea how he found Guzmán's grave. The family visited again the following Sunday, and there was Capitán.

"This time, he followed us home and spent a bit of time with us, but then went back to the cemetery before it started getting dark," Moreno said.

The dog has a very specific schedule, according to Héctor Baccega, the cemetery director.

"During the day he sometimes has a walk around the cemetery, but always rushes back to the grave," Baccega said, according to the Daily Mail. "And every day, at six o'clock sharp, he lies down on top of the grave stays there all night."

Baccega said staff at the cemetery feed and take care of Capitán, although he refuses to go home with anyone, including Guzmán's son.

"I've tried to bring Capitán home several times, but he always comes straight back to the cemetery," Damian Guzmán said. "I think he's going to be there until he dies too. He's looking after my dad."
