OGDEN — Four family members, including three children, were able to escape their burning house without injury early Wednesday thanks to a smoke detector.

Just before 12:30 a.m., a homeowner near 2800 Jackson Avenue heard a smoke detector going off and went outside to find the garage on fire, according to Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Matt Schwenk.

The homeowner got the three children in the house out safely.

The fire spread from the garage to the interior of the house. When fire crews arrived the garage was fully involved, Schwenk said. The fire was brought under control about 1:40 a.m. Damage was estimated at $130,000.

Investigators were still looking for a cause to the fire Wednesday morning.

Additional information will be posted when it becomes available.
