PROVO -- BYU fans will get a whole new view at LaVell Edwards Stadium thanks to a pair of new scoreboards.
The project will include state-of-art LED video walls in the north and south end zones, as well as LED ribbon boards across the top of both end zones.
The project is in the final stages of planning. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2012, with completion projected by the home opener on Sept. 1 versus Washington State.
The new scoreboards are thanks to a "generous sponsorship" by Nu Skin Enterprises, and its partnership with IMG College.
LaVell Edwards Stadium has undergone several renovations over the years.
Cougar Stadium (renamed LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2000) opened in 1964 with approximately 30,000 seats. Additional seating was soon added to increase the capacity to 35,000 seats.
The stadium was expanded to 65,000 seats prior to the 1982 football season.
In 1996, a video wall was added to the south end zone and a matrix scoreboard to the north end zone. The north end zone scoreboard was updated in 2008 to include a small video board. Recent upgrades to club seating in LaVell Edwards Stadium makes the current capacity 63,470.
