SACRAMENTO -- There are nearly 800,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints living in California, and many of the members in the Sacramento area are hoping for the NBA lockout to end soon so that they can show their support for the Sacramento Kings and former BYU star Jimmer Fredette.

An article published by the Sacramento Bee reported that Fredette spoke to local members last week and gained a few more fans to his already faithful gathering.

Over the past few months Mormons have been in the spotlight of the media with presidential candidates and musicals, but perhaps no other member currently has a larger following than Fredette does.

Fredette could be put in the same class as Donny Osmond and Steve Young, who have been great missionaries for the LDS Church despite not serving full-time missions.

Jimmer’s father, Al Fredette, told the Sacramento Bee that Jimmer will remain focused on his new career as well as his faith: "That's the way he has always been."
