Sam Penrod Reporting The trial of the parents accused of kidnapping their daughter to prevent her marriage has been canceled. It's the latest development in this case, which appears to finally be over.

The case was supposed to be settled today in a Provo Court, but some last minute loose ends did not come together. Yet, both the prosecutor and defense attorney are confident enough they have a plea deal that they have canceled the trial that was scheduled for next month.

Lem and Julia Redd have faced felony kidnapping charges since last August, after they drove their 21-year-old daughter Julianna out of state the day before her wedding. They brought her back to Provo the next day, and she still got married to Perry Myers a few days later. The Redds were charged with kidnapping.

The case was getting closer to going before a jury, but now it seems an agreement has been reached. Defense attorney Rhome Zabriskie says, "I think there are a lot of parties that have to feel satisfied with the way we're getting this resolved, and we're trying to keep everyone happy. My clients are happy with the resolution we have, and it's taken a lot of give on both sides, but we've made up a lot of ground over the last few weeks."

The Redds daughter Julianna was not at court today. She and her husband became parents themselves. A baby daughter was born a month ago.

Exactly what the plea deal is no one is saying, but there are indications the parents will plead guilty to a crime; likely a misdemeanor and get counseling.

It is not expected the Redds will face any jail time.

So we will wait until next Thursday when the Redds will return to court to make it official and this criminal case may finally be over.
