WEST VALLEY CITY - Al Jones picked up his first Comcast Super Stock win of the season on Monday, September 1. Starting on the front row, Travis Walker led the first eight laps of the 30-lap main. Starting from the seventh position, Tim Fahrner made impressive passes on the outside of James Ford, who was running in second, before going on to make another outside pass on Walker for the lead at lap nine.
Fahrner held a significant advantage on the field until a caution on lap 18 where he exited the track and didn't return. This opened up the lead to Travis Walker who faced close competition from Ford now running in second, and Jones running in third. As the last laps wound down, Jones made attempts at an outside pass on Ford. Jones made the pass stick on lap 29 and quickly set his sights on a first place finish. Jones caught Walker on the final lap and overtook him at the finish line, crossing just 00.028 ahead of Walker. Ford finished in third, Corey Walker finished in fourth, and Don Fenton finished in fifth.
Tonight's Labor Day event also featured Rocky Mountain Raceways' annual Doomsday Figure-8 Trailer Race. A packed house witnessed Cheyenne Torgerson take first place. Richie Dastrup took home second and Aaric Tox took home third. The crowd-favorite Master of Disaster award went to 16-year-old Kylie Taylor.
Additional RMR Oval Racing Series winners included Kevin Truscott (Hornets,) Jeanille Waters-Romero (Jr. Stingers,) and All Powelled Up (Double Deckers.)
Oval racing will continue on the America First Credit Union Super Oval on Saturday, September 6 with Fox 13 Night at the Races, featuring the Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains, Maverik Modifieds, Winged Sprints, U Burn Em' We Build Em' Transmissions Mini Cups, and Utah Pro 4's. Fans can purchase $13 family passes, which includes spectator admission for two adults and three youth (5-12.)
