SALT LAKE CITY — A Riverton man was charged Wednesday with arson after he allegedly set fire to an abandoned house.
Thomas Kantor, 46, was charged in 3rd District court with one count of aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, after he allegedly set fire to a vacant house located at 5377 W. Elk Horn Peak Dr. in Riverton.
A Unified Fire Investigator determined that the fire was started by placing a piece of carpet on top of the range-top oven in the house, and starting the burners, according to charging documents.
Fingerprints obtained from a basement window at the scene of the fire were used to identify the defendant.
